Some duties and responsivities are: 
  • asses patients needs using observation, medical records, test, and discussions with other healthcare professionals, patients' families, and patients
  • develop treatment plans and programs that meet patients' needs and interests 
  • plan and implement interventions to support the client in meeting his or hers goals
  • engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise , games, and community outings
  • help patients learn social skills needed to become or remain independent 
  • teach patients about ways to cope with stress, anxiety, or depression
  • document and analyze a patients' progress 
  • evaluate interventions for effectiveness 
The median annual wage for recreational therapists was $47,680 in May 2017 
The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $29,570, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $74,210.

Recreational therapists typically need a bachelor's degree, usually in recreational therapy or related field such as recreational leisure studies.
