Optometrist

Optometrist

Optometrist Job Description: Optometrists, also known as doctors of optometry, or ODs, provide most primary vision care. They examine people's eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases, and they test patients' visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes.

According to salary reports, the highest paid salary for an optometrist in the United States is about $130,000 while the lowest paid salary is about $90,000 per annum. However, an optometrist working in a private practice can earn around more than $175,000 per annum.

Becoming an optometrist will require a student to first complete a bachelor's degree and pass an optometry program admission test. The successful applicant will then complete a four year Doctor of Optometry degree program to prepare them for licensure and a career in diagnosing and treating vision problems.
